Hubby was the one who discovered this from the grocery store that we frequent. When I opened our first can, I was so surprised with the content. While most sardines brands contain small and scrimped amount, Del Monte sardines has huge fish and ample sauce. One can is enough to feed 5 adults. That is why, since then, this sardines brand became a staple in our grocery list. It is something worth eating when the menu gets boring.
Philippines is probably one of the countries rich in marine life, being surrounded with water. This is also the reason why many men in the provinces do fishing for a living.
I am not someone who grew up near the sea but I ate fish a lot, though the kind of fish that we ate was very limited. Only when my mom worked in Samar, Leyte, the variety of fish that we ate grew. When she comes home for a short visit or work, she sees to it that she brings us fresh seafood. That sort of became her indulgent since those are pricey here in the metro.
My favorite fish is Tilapia. I like it big. My favorite way of cooking this is frying until the skin is crisp. I love fried Tilapia with any vegetable. Actually, I dubbed that as my happy food. I also like it with coconut milk or even just steamed.
Galunggong or Macarel Scad is not actually my favorite but I eat it. I like it fried, in coconut milk, or in ginger and vinegar.
Aside from these, I also like eating Dinaing na Bangus (Milk Fish). I only eat Bangus when it is dinaing or relleno.
Other fish variety that I have tried and enjoyed were Matang Baka, Salmon, and Yellow Fin to name a few.
I am open to trying other varieties from http://www.caviargalore.com/belugacaviar.html if given a chance.
